Pet Stories: In Your Own Words

Snuggles

By: Jessie McCament

My mom picked her out. She was just a ball of fur. I was only 5 or 6 at the time and really wanted a puppy of my own. This little Yorkie mix turned out to be my Mom’s dog. Mom took Snuggles everywhere. Even carried her in her purse and took her to the grocery store. Oh yeah, sure she loved everybody in the family, but Mom was the number one person! I would take her and her little sister in my room and pretend we were princesses. My Mother has bladder cancer (bless her little heart) and every time she would get surgery and come home, Snuggles would not leave her side.

Well, on July 24, 2000 our little angel dog went home at 12:45 am. All our hearts were crushed. I tried to comfort my Mom by telling her that Snuggles went to the other side. Just imagine… How beautiful it is there! Well, a couple of days later bug gave us a sign that she was still watching over us. I new she would because I asked her too. It was late at night and my Papa went to sleep. He had gotten up about 15 minutes later and told Mom and me that bug had just been here. He told us that he was just about asleep when all of a sudden the bed had started to vibrate and then he felt little paws walking around on the bed. He thought it might be Snuggles sister Scruffy but she was snoring away when he went to look. I told him, “Of course it was bug saying that she's here but on the other side watching us.”

Well, that's my story. I hope you enjoy it.
