Environment has many connotations but, basically, it is whatever surrounds you at any given time. When you are at work you are in a work environment. At home you are in a home environment. Walking in the woods you are in a natural environment. How we view, understand, compliment and exist within these places are the deeper meaning of the word. Yet, when someone says the word 'environment' our minds have a tendency to see one of two things: the beauty of nature or the destruction of nature. These are only two aspects of an enormous picture that we all too often take for granted.
On a personal scale, the environment that surrounds us on a daily basis can contribute to our well-being or to our dis-ease. Examining and understanding our immediate surroundings can contribute to the wellbeing of each of us as much as we can contribute to our daily environments. Learning to coexist with natural and manmade surroundings should be a priority in our lives. Tools like feng shui and geomancy can help make a personal environment more productive and healthy.
Globally we know that preventing the destruction of the natural environment is a responsibility that we must all embrace, as this small planet is our legacy for future generations. Accepting this responsibility requires both knowledge and implementation. I don't believe it is too late to save this planet and our individual spaces on it. I do believe we can make a difference, individually and collectively.
The articles in this section address issues of our personal and our global environments and what we can do to coexist within them. If you have any comments or suggestions, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
