UFO Stories: In Your Own Words
Becoming a Believer
The week or two leading up to Christmas of 2001 experienced some of the worst bush fires in decades. I live in the city of Belconnen which is actually a satellite city of Canberra, the Australian National Capital. Canberra had 13 or more fires, almost all of them lit by arsonists. By the 27th of December all the fires in the Canberra region had gone out or were under control and the sky was now completely clear and no longer smelled of smoke. On this day around 12:30 p.m., I fell asleep while watching television. I was woken up by the sound of a loud airplane circling nearby. I realized it was a large Air Force plane; e.g. Hercules. I raced outside to see why it was circling so close and around the suburban area. I watched the plane as it disappeared west. This day was perfectly clear with no clouds but very windy.
I continued to scan the sky, when suddenly I noticed very high just behind my house travelling east from a westerly direction, a very distinct silver/grey and white saturn shaped aircraft. It moved steadily past my house and then suddenly an identical object came right up behind it. They flew in a synchronised formation until I could no longer see them and this lasted for about a minute. Because I live below a flight path for out-going aircraft which fly much lower, I am very certain that they were not planes of any kind. After they disappeared out of sight I thought who do I ring. I searched through the phone book, but couldn't find anything in the Defense Force section, but finally found the Australian UFO Research Network (AUFORN) and left a message on their answering service. A representative rang me three days later and I told her my story.
Since this amazing sighting, something I never thought would happen to me, it has changed me forever, and I am absolutely, most definitely sure now, that there is something going on in our skies that is intelligent and not of Earthly origin. To finally "know" the truth is the biggest "buzz" of all. The biggest problem, since my "enlightenment" so to speak, is that there are very few people to talk to about this encounter. So many people don't spend the time to look up at the sky, day or night. It is such a pity that I didn't have a camera on me that day as I know there would now be more believers out there besides me.
