Spirit Stories: In Your Own Words
My Grandfather
|
When I was a little girl, approximately three years old, my Grandfather was very ill. There was always a lit candle at his bedside. My aunt always made sure there was a fresh one when one would burn out. The family priest was there to give him last rights. We were all kneeling at his bedside, when I saw my Grandfather take his last breath - at that time the candle went out. When the ambulance arrived, the paramedics came into my Grandfather's room. They yelled out, "It's a good thing you didn't light this candle next to the oxygen tank." My grandfather had this oxygen tank in his room for days, with a burning candle at its side. I am now 56, but I can still see that room with my Grandfather and that burning candle at his side. |
