Pet Stories: In Your Own Words

Tiby

By: Amanda Freeman

I got my female cat, Tiby, for my 8th birthday. She was the cutest little ball of fluff I had laid my eye's on. Tiby was a big part of my life, moving with us five times and settling in each and every time. The last move was with my husband. Tiby and I went to a home we decided to rent until our trip around the world in April 1997. Leading up to the trip I had this strange feeling that Tiby wouldn't be with us as she didn't want to be left with anyone while we were away. It was a though she wanted to die because she couldn't be with me. At the time Tiby was 16 years old and in perfect health.

Two days prior to her death she was doing something quite funny and I told my husband to watch, which he did with little interest, so I said to him, "You know, you shouldn't be like that, you never know when you won't be able to enjoy Tiby doing such things." Two days later my husband and I were having a sleepŠin when I heard this god aweful scream coming from Tiby. With that I jumped out of bed and ran outside to find her laying under the house. I quickly ran over to her noticing a Rottweiler running off in the other direction. I sat beside her crying and told her how much I loved her. She slipped away taking one last breath and softly making a noise to let me know that she loved me, too.

I will never forget Tiby and the joy she gave me. I now have another female cat whom we call Winky. How did we give her that name? Well, she actually choose it herself. Before I bought Winky home I had this other name picked for her and when we got her she would look up at us and Wink, hence the name.
