Pet Stories: In Your Own Words

By: Chris Zagelow-Berg

My dog Sitka reached the age of fourteen and one half years. His body was worn and his spirit was ready to leave. Sitka and I had been through a lot, he was my buddy, my running partner, my ball chaser, and my confidant. He communicated with his Malamute howl. He made me laugh. I knew it was his time to go but it brought grief to me. His body quit breathing in my arms and I cried many tears. He was part of my family. He helped raise my children. I was extremely sad and cried all day and night.

I was awakened during the night by the appearance of a female over my chest. She was putting packs of cloth in my chest. She looked Native American Indian, wore a white leather dress, and had gray-white long hair. She was talking to one or two people behind her and she said I needed to be saved from a broken heart that was bleeding and she couldn't get it to stop. I could see my chest. It was an open wound. The whole scene was very blurry with white and golden lights. She told the women behind her to bring her the dog. He looked like a picture. She put him in my chest and closed it. When I woke up, I remembered the happening. I missed Sitka but no longer felt the deep grief. A healer appeared to me and repaired what could have developed into a physical condition. We are never alone. When we live life on purpose with love, we are watched over.
