ROGER FOUTS
Roger is the author of Next of Kin: What Chimpanzees Have Taught Me About Who We Are. Over the past 30 years Roger has turned the dream of talking to animals into reality by pioneering communication with chimpanzees through sign language, beginning with a high spirited, unforgettable chimp named Washoe. Roger's groundbreaking work with Washoe and other chimpanzees who share more than 98% of our DNA made scientific history as their unprecedented dialogues opened a window into chimpanzee consciousness and the origins of human language and intelligence.
Roger is a Professor of Psychology at Central Washington University and codirector with his wife, Deborah, of the Chimpanzee and Human Communications Institute. |
