Also, Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock (1964) shares this month's celebrity birthday.
Grampa Frank * "I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move." Robert Louis Stevenson * Oscar Wilde says, rather said, "It is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious." * Here's one I like. It is an old Japanese saying, "No road is long with a friend along." *

Hello
These quotes were sent to me today. They made me laugh. When Insults Had Class These glorious insults are from an era before the English language got boiled down to four-letter words. The exchange between Churchill & Lady Astor: She said, "If you were my husband, I'd give you poison." He said, "If you were my wife, I'd drink it." A member of Parliament to Disraeli: "Sir, you will either die on the gallows or of some unspeakable disease." "That depends, sir," said Disraeli, "on whether I embrace your policies or your mistress." "He had delusions of adequacy." - Walter Kerr "He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire." - Winston Churchill "I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow "He has never been known to use a word that might send a reader to the dictionary." - William Faulkner (about Ernest Hemingway) "Thank you for sending me a copy of your book; I'll waste no time reading it." - Moses Hadas "I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it." - Mark Twain "He has no enemies, but is intensely disliked by his friends." - Oscar Wilde "I am enclosing two tickets to the first night of my new play; bring a friend...if you have one." - George Bernard Shaw to Winston Churchill "Cannot possibly attend first night, will attend second...if there is one." - Winston Churchill, in response "I feel so miserable without you; it's almost like having you here." - Stephen Bishop "He is a self-made man and worships his creator." - John Bright "I've just learned about his illness. Let's hope it's nothing trivial." - Irvin S. Cobb "He is not only dull himself; he is the cause of dullness in others." - Samuel Johnson "He is simply a shiver looking for a spine to run up." - Paul Keating "In order to avoid being called a flirt, she always yielded easily." - Charles, Count Talleyrand "He loves nature in spite of what it did to him." - Forrest Tucker "Why do you sit there looking like an envelope without any address on it?" - Mark Twain "His mother should have thrown him away and kept the stork" - Mae West "Some cause happiness wherever they go; others, whenever they go." - Oscar Wilde "He uses statistics as a drunken man uses lamp-posts...for support rather than illumination." - Andrew Lang (1844-1912) "He has Van Gogh's ear for music." - Billy Wilder "I've had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn't it." - Groucho Marx

You know, I can’t think of any quotes to post . . . I’m laughing too hard – Thank you for sharing those insults, SM - I always wished I could to respond to verbal attacks like Churchill – or give them like this. Still – what’s with Faulkner? I mean – I like big words - like cruciferous, say, the sound of it rolls around in your head and creates a big picture and says so much - but still, I like Hemingway because he’s so simple and direct and his books don’t usually weigh as much as Faulkner’s – hey, I’ve had Carpal Tunnel- you have to think of these things!

"History teaches us that men and nations behave wisely once they have exhausted all the other alternatives."
~ Abba Eban ~ "Of any man i know; he can compress the most words into the smallest idea." ~ Abraham Lincoln ~ "When people are free to do as they please; they usually imitate eachother." ~ Eric Hoffer ~ "When one person suffers a delusion it's called insanity; when many people suffer a delusion it's called religion." ~ Robert Persig ~ "Don't be humble. You're not that great. ~ Golda Meir ~ "Why is it that when we talk to God, it's called praying and when God talks to us, it's called schizophrenic?" ~ Lily Tomlin ~ --------------------------------------------------------- And lastly... some quotes from "GW" "I know the human being and fish can co-exit peacefully" "I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family" "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?" ------------------------------------------------------------- Joy and Light!

The world owes you nothing; it was here first. Mark Twain
We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light. Plato Sometimes I lie awake at night and I ask, "Where have I gone wrong?" Then a voice says to me, "This is going to take more than one night." Charles Shultz |

I love these - from the funny to the thoughtful.
Here are some of my favorites... If you can imagine it, you can create it. If you can dream it, you can become it.....William Arthur Ward Forgiveness is the fragrance the violet sheds - on the heel that has crushed it.....Mark Twain When you were born, you cried - and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die - the world cries and you rejoice.....Cherokee Saying The most valuable lesson man has learned from his dog is to kick a few blades of grass over it and move on.....Robert Brault If you've made mistakes, there's always another chance for you. You can have a fresh start any moment you choose, for the thing we call "failure" is not the falling down - but the staying down.....Mary Pickford Attitude is a little thing - that makes a big difference....Winston Churchill The state of your life is nothing more than a reflection of the state of your mind.....Wayne Dyer Treat people "as if they were" what they ought to be - and you help them to "Become" what they are capable of being....Goethe If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a closed room with a mosquito.....African Proverb And of course, that most famous quoter of all - "Anonymous".... There are hundreds of languages in the world, but a Smile speaks them all The greatest oak was once a little nut that held its ground How come it takes so little time for a child who is afraid of the dark - to become a teenager who wants to stay out all night The trouble with bucket seats is that not everyone has the same size bucket Love...Peg
