Default Pray for Kentucky Derby Horses Tomorrow

Please pray for the safety of all of the horses running in the Kentucky Derby tomorrow, and pray for ALL horses forced into this abusive treatment for the monetary gain of humans. Horse racing is terribly destructive to the horses. They are only 2 years old; their bones aren't even set and finished growing. They are run at abusive speeds they would never run at themselves. And once their "careers" (oh, please!) are done, they are sold in terrifying auction for slaughter. All horses are aware and conscious they are being taken to their deaths and most feel the pain of being killed. WHAT IS WRONG WITH HUMANS???!!! Pray for these horses running tomorrow.
The more people who speak out against it, the more chance we have of outlawing this horrifyingly abusive sport against horses. (See horses "Barbaro*" and "Eight Belles." Rest In Peace. *Barbaro's leg broke when he jumped the starting gate, and they re-gated him and inside of 10 strides his leg shattered into more than 15 pieces. Eight Belles, both her front ankles broke simultaneously after being run at insane speed. )

Behind all the glamour in our world is some sort of exploitation – whether with animals or people. It’s all down to the fact that materialism alone – without spirituality was the cornerstone of creating the society we live in – and the institutions and activities which have become “traditions”.

We have rescues for racehorses and greyhounds and they are wonderful – they balance out the abuse in terms of energy - but it would be more wonderful if we didn’t need them.

Nothing – or people would never feel that this is wrong – and they do – and that’s what’s right with us.

Humanity is a spectrum of possibility – we just have to decide what we support and work towards that with the means we have in the moment.

I’m glad that the horses ran safely – but no racing in this fashion would be best of all.

Hello,

By the way, gymnasts are subjects to an abundance of abuse as well, kept at body weights that alter natural and healthy growth, and psychologically damaging, due to the ridiculous weight restrictions, and often sexual abuse is part of the equation. Hell yes, I will always pray for animals, sometimes I love them more than people, but we should all pray and protect every life form.

Love,
Di

That's a good point!

There seems to be some idea that abusing something – us abusing ourselves – like when people think they have to work long hours to get ahead or gymnasts or just dieting to look a part or something – or abusing the planet – as in polluting – or animals – so many examples! – that it’s somehow ok because of the end result – but it’s pretty twisted really – “success” based on treating ourselves and others so badly –

I wonder what would it all be like if we said – everything had a nurturing energy – life supporting- it would be a totally different world –

Definitely.

Default NPR's "Fresh Air" Covers Horse Racing

Fresh Air has done very telling expose on the HORRORS of horse racing. Hold onto your hat, animal lovers, when you hear what these people do to horses, "To make sure the BETTERS are protected." (can you believe it?!!!) You can listen here at WHYY (philadelphia). It is a very important show to hear:

Let's remember horses in our prayers for all our animals.
