Ever been curious to see what it tasted like? I did when I was younger, had some cat biscuits too. Not the nicest taste.
Anyone else ate any of their pets food? ![]() |

When I was a kid in northern Maine it was not at all uncommon for the elderly poor to eat cat food instead of pricier canned goods, like tuna fish. Because we were so remote from the state capital and well-run social service agencies that were in southern Maine, things like this "just were;" and were ignored, a mere fact of life.
I never heard anyone complain about the cat food. Then again, when one lives in the boonies, what's the point of complaining? Who would listen?! Also, the really poor don't get good dental care and cat food's soft -- I remember one old neighbor used to spread it on saltine crackers, like a pate ... Huh. I haven't thought of this stuff for a long time. ... How influential the geography of our childhood is on the rest of our life's journey!!!! Thanks for the memory nudge, Paula! Love, Lura |

I remember when I was around 11 yrs old my Dads parents came for Christmas. My Mom made divinity and she put red and green food coloring in them to be festive. Well my grandfather wouldn't eat the green ones said they looked like poison. One day he was looking for something to eat with his coffee and he looked in a cannister on the refrigerator and found some little brown squares and ate one. As he sat down with my father he said he thought those cookies went bad and my Dad looked and said no they are fine but they were dog food!! He started to gag and spit it out, when Mom found out she just smiled.....I think he would have been better off eating her divinity even it was poison!!
