This is prime time to find a farm and get out there apple picking. I did this today with my daughter and grandsons and had a wonderful time. They loved looking for the various apple trees and trying to find just the perfect apple. Also, went on a horse cart ride through the fields, had cinnamon donuts and picked out some perfect pumpkins. This was a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours on a beautiful, sunny early autumn day. Find a farm near you and try it. It will get you in the mood for fall, I promise.

Hi Joanne
How wonderful! I just ordered two crates of organic apples from the Sedona/Oak Creek area. Plan to make Apple Butter and Brandied APple Butter for winter supplies as soon as they come in! Can't wait!!! I'd be there picking them but can't raise the arms that high yet so I have to rely on their selection. Love BE

Please post recipes! We have at least three kinds of apples growing here at Wildwood and most of them just end up going to the deer.
much love! Rick

Great idea Joanne! Sounds like you had a splendid day with your dear family! I just luv this time of year! We have one golden delicious apple tree but this year's early dry spring and very hot long summer have produced many small 'gnarly' apples...squirrels just love them though!
Here's a family recipe for MacIntosh Apple Pie that's been in the MacIntosh family for a few generations..hope yawl like it ! pre-heat oven to anywhere between 350 -375 ! I just loved my grandma from Nova Scotia! We're lucky we got measurements! Her ovens varied! I use 375 and keep an eye on the crust edges..just like pumpkin pie ![]() one unbaked pie crust 5-6 grated apples, any of your fave kind for pie making 1c. brown light sugar 8 oz. sour cream 2 beaten eggs 1/2 tsp. vanilla mix all the above ingredients and pour into unbaked shell bake for about 1hr. and 10 minutes ...Bon Apetite!
