Everything good comes around again...
(todays NY Times) ‘Promises, Promises’ Gets Its First Broadway Revival PHOTO: [Shirley MacLaine and Jack Lemmon in “The Apartment,” from which “Promises, Promises,” was adapted.] Has Broadway got room for one more Neil Simon show? The musical “Promises, Promises,” for which Mr. Simon adapted the book from the 1960 Billy Wilder comedy “The Apartment,” and which features a score by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, is headed back to Broadway for its first-ever revival since its original 1968 production. In a news release, publicists for the revival said that it would star Sean Hayes (of “Will & Grace” and the recent Encores! revival of “Damn Yankees”) as Chuck Baxter and Kristin Chenoweth (“Wicked”) as Fran Kubelik; those roles were played by Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine in “The Apartment,” and by Jerry Orbach and Jill O’Hara in the original Broadway run of “Promises, Promises.” The revival will be directed by Rob Ashford (“Thoroughly Modern Millie”), who is making his Broadway directorial debut, and is scheduled to begin previews at the Broadway Theater on March 28, with its opening night set for April 25. It will be produced by John Gore, Thomas B. McGrath and Beth Williams for Broadway Across America; as well as Craig Zadan, Neil Meron, Candy Spelling and the Weinstein Company. |
