One thing I am grateful for about returning from a vacation in Maui to -7 degree temperatures in sweet home Chicago is getting to catch up on IE Radio on the long blistery cold commute into the office.

This was really a great show, indeed. Loved the discussion on truth vs. hope, which Shirley discusses in her latest book. Other spiritual (intellectuals) like Pema Chodron also discuss this in her writings. What do you think this says about presidential campaigns (Obama included) that focus so much on "hope." Is it a way to control voters? If we cannot trust ourselves, we have to place hope in something outside of ourselves--i.e., presidential candidates? I wonder?

Speaking of democracy--I loved Shirley's contemplation of the following quote from Dr. Gallenberger as actually being a good definition of democracy: "do not attribute to malice what may be attributed to stupidity." Perfect!

Namaste and aloha from the frozen Midwest,
stephanie
