Here's a good opening quote from Cowan's introduction:

"Fear always results in some form of contraction--and contraction is not compatible with seeing the Big Picture. Contraction supports a compromised level of consciousness. When we are afraid, we tend to revert to the known, to past conditioning, cutting off our ability to think creatively." (Intro. at p. xx).
Question: What are we so afraid of?! Death? Don't we know that is going to happen no matter what (thank the goddess)? Pain? Embarrassment? What is it? . . . Or, perhaps the better question (SM) is "what if? . . ."

p.s. I do note, however, that when animals (including humans) are fearful, our pupils tend to dilate, not "contract." Interesting.
