The Big Elephant
The Big Elephant stands
Grazing quietly and nonchalantly On the twigs of various trees And delights in the succulence. It has a feeling that it is being viewed From different vantage points Different angles of its being And yet, it doesn't seem to care. For it knows that it is still The Big Elephant. Oh that we could all just see Ourselves, as The Big Elephant And not be moved by others perceptions But simply stand in our knowing. Of who we are..... Love, Deb |
the great challenge
...yes.... to stand in the knowing of who we are.. to stand in that knowing..totally accepting and happy with who we are... |
Oh yes !
...yes, indeed !

I would like
I would like to someday meet
An Old Crone Elephant And to commune with her. I believe that is One of my heart's desires. Will be looking forward to that. Love, Deb |
You are communing with Her right now Deb.
She is you and you are Her. |
If I may?
"A Crone...is someone who embodies...."wrinkled knowledge".
"Of course, being and becoming a Crone---being and becoming complete in one's own Powers----is no automatic thing. It is gained only by the most prodigious labors. "Ursula LeGuin observes, "There are things the Old Woman can do, say, and think that the Woman cannot do, say, or think. The Woman has to give up more than her menstrual periods before she can do, say, or think them. She has got to change her life....bear herself, her third self, her old age." The results of successfully undergoing this "wringkling," this enormous psychic and physical shift are the SIGNS OF AGING that are so abhorrent in the snool's-eye view: the waxing of incisiveness, courage, belligerence, intractability, the ability to change, and the development of the Powers of psychic warfare. "The world we know and do not know is itself undergoing a climacteric, a critical shift of enormous proportions, something like the transformations a woman undergoes at menopause. The commonly heard refrain "change or die" seems accurate enough. Yet patriarchal man steadfastly fears and refuses ontological change. This, then, is the promise of the Crone, she who knows that there is nothing to fear. What the Crone presages for the individual woman and for the world as a whole is, precisely, the CHANGE OF LIFE." "We must face the Medusa, the unfaceable in ourselves, in order to have access to the powers we require." Chela Sandoval --------GOSSIPS, GORGONS, & CRONES, the fates of the earth, by Jane Caputi, introduced by Paula Gunn Allen ************************************************** ** Deb, I was inspired by what you wrote and offer these passages in honor of a new light shining in your words. A Big Elephant's Tale,

Finally There I was....
standing next to a Mastodon who completely ignored me, as he tore down and devoured a tree. I could see my reflection in his big brown eye. Unfortunately I was standing up wind of the matriarchs who were caring for the young ones out in a field some distance away. When they caught a whiff of me they trumpeted alarm... and that male then took me in his trunk and battered me to death upon the ground, stomping me in the end for good measure. He then went back to eating his tree. |

The Big Elephant
Munching still
Upon the branches of An agreeable tree. The Big Elephant hears A quiet voice speak She raises her head then. She recognizes A soft voice that beckons And she moves on. She moves on Solid in her movements Yet open to what she will find. Love, Deb |

The Big Elephant
And so it is
That I allow myself To be taken to points Beyond what I have ever known ...Before Questions always, I ask As new questions arise From my previously answered questions And still, ...I wonder There seems to be no ending To the answers of my unasked questions And yet I trace the mode of fashion With my own self's knowing ...And I continue Confronted I am within my ownself And the knowings that seem to be Emerging within me, slowly seeping Walking across my heart ...and I hear The Big Elephant speaks Triumphant in her presentation Wondering why I didn't get it before Looking at me in wonder, herself ...sighing then Oh then, I hear that silent voice She will get it in time And I, wondering what time is Continues to grasp for my unknown ...eating grass Yes, that is what I see The Big Elephant eating grass Leisurely grasping for Yet another twig ...succulence I am coupled with myself Holding to all that I know And still wondering Where does the next twig come from ...in my face Love, Deb |
The Big Elephant
The Big Elephant
Feels the breeze And is captured By its presence. Swaying then with the motion Of the breeze The Big Elephant Smiles in her own way. Doesn't need much Does she, to be taken off Into another world Swaying all along. And it seems That in the swaying That she finds a gratitude Of some sorts. Just swaying with the motion Of being and existing In her own world As she just delights ...in being. Love, Deb |
Perceptions
Everyone seems to lend
Their perceptions But do they really Take responsiblity For their own perceptions? I wonder.... Love, Deb |
The Big Elephant
The Big Elephant moves herself
To a safe place under the willows of the trees Planting herself there, she braces herself. Though it is silent now, she still hears The whispers of the winds and directs herself To protect herself from the coming winds Holding herself there, she waits. She then calls all others in She howls and howls, gathering them in Feeling comforted then by all those who have come She stands her charge and waits again. Waiting then.... Love, Deb |
