WISDOM
The process from getting head knowlege
To heart wisdom through experience.

And in that process all is taken into accord
All possibilties that could have occurred
Then balancing those with the decisions
I have made.

The outcome? Well maybe I COULD HAVE done it better
But this is what I have come to from the decisions that I have made
And it is in the acceptance and allowance that I give myself
The advantage and permission to try again in a better way.

Ever learning, the Big Elephant shakes her head
"Will I ever learn?" she questions
"Yeah!" she thinks, when I am ready.
And then she turns and walks forward

So the question seems to me to be, would better be differently
Or would it simply be the path we chose this time to see
I think experience is what our souls want more than anything else
And each time we move one way or not, we create what we call selves.

So letís not judge ourselves this life, for that is best undone
Letís know that every move we made was more than just for fun.
For in everything we say and do from birth until our last
Itís just a choice that we have made, just another path

We all could have done it better in every life we live
For no one does it perfectly no matter how much they give.
So no regrets at how we lived, no sadness for things not done
For all we have this second in time is what we have become.

The Big Elephant

The Big Elephant stops
She looks around solidly
She hears questionings of chants
Questionings...

No, she thinks, that is not it
That is not it at all
And so she again raises her head
And trumpets her call.

And in her trumpeting she releases
The call for all those who know
Who know why they have come
And her call seeps into the night.

Beckoning still, she holds her ground
I know, she thinks, I just know.
And still she beckons
Trumpeting still in the darkness

....Of the night

No, I will not give up, she thinks
There are others I know who wish to come
I feel them, I know them within my heart.
And she waits as she feels the echos

...Of her heart

Someone is beckoning...wait for me....

Love, Deb

And so she waits

Patiently, she waits....

Hi Linda, Jordan and Nori

Thanks for the welcome back. Don't know how long I'll stay but I do seem to be drawn back here. Nori, maybe your right. Maybe this is the real world. I know I prefer it to my real world. Perhaps someday, I'll realize that and change worlds so that this become real and everyday life an illusion. But in the meantime, I'll just say I'll try to come back more often my friends. Thanks again.

Hi Deb

Just when I think I've got your Elephant figured out, up pops a new wrinkle so to speak. I've missed reading your post my friend. Hopefully I can read more of them. Nice writing as always.

The Big Elephant

Standing in repose, looking back
She comes to the recognition
There were times when she felt
She had given more than was given
Drained then, she wondered, what more?

But then, she once again saw the horizon
And that continued to beckon her
She saw and felt the rising Sun
And the energy that it emitted
And in that, her energy was ignited

Ahhh, she breathed a heavy breath
Taking one more step, did she proceed
And with each step did her Spirit present
Another facet of herself that she had not forseen
And a smile crept across her knowing

Another step, another step, another step
And soon she was once again in the motion
Moving within her was the motion
That she had presented
And she continued on again.

And then the journey became
Not a task but one of devotion
And she joyed in the movement
Of her own heart, for her own heart
And then it was that she realized

Suddenly there came upon her
Whispers in the wind
Tiny tauntings of suspense
And she became exhilerated
In the prospects of what could be

And then it was that she again
Walked the plains in high majesty
Her head lifted high, sensing the air
Placing her feet one step at a time
She felt solid in her presence

... and then she proceeded

Does the Big Elephant do life alone? babies? parents? a mate perhaps? Or has she surpassed all physical bonds and become what she is today without ties, without birth, without death and see life merely as a continuing cycle of thought and perceptions? From whence doth Big Elephant cometh?

It seems that the Big Elephant will have to get back with you on that one. She is busy now leading her camp to forage in a lush green forest. But she does say that it is not so important from which she cometh but where she goeth. And there was a whisper of something, as she munches, about all that really matters is now and what she does now. If I heard correctly, she says that it is not what she has done in the past, but what she does today that is of the greatest importance. I don't know, she doesn't seem to be really concerned about it, the first thing is that she has to eat right now.

The Big Elephant Smiles

Her belly full, the Big Elephant lingers
Hearing the low roll of thunder, in the distance.
"Best to stay here for the night," she thinks
And possibly many days ahead.
There is great succulence here
And a nearby stream to fill her
With the life liquid of the Mother Earth
And wash herself as well
Playing in the waters has always been
A great pleasure for her.

It was then that she pondered
The questions that had been presented
Does the Big Elephant do life alone?
The answer to that could seem
Quite a paradox, but not really
Taking into consideration of all that is involved
Of course, one must walk alone in a certain sense
For only the one is responsible for themselves
But in her walking, she has shared her life with others
Who are responsible within themselves.

And so she sees her walk as a personal one
Striving to do what is to her best advantage
And yet shared with others who walk personally as well
Finding their needs cojoined with her own
Waiting at times, for others to catch up
Recalling times when it was she who had to catch up
But recognizing that they were all in this together
First of all in their own, secondly, sharing
There combined needs, not only for survival
But for the fullment of their very own hearts.

Smiling, she sighs. "Yes, it is a walk alone."
But it is a walk that is shared by others
For we each must walk alone first of all
Before we can appreciate another's walk
And so comes consideration, not only for onself
But for another and then we communicate
And when we comminicate and truly hear
We come to compromise
Compromise for the best advantage of both
So that no one is ever really alone.

It is a paradox it seems
Walking alone within the community of others
Each holding their own sovereignty
Within the fullness of shared communion
Each providing what they have to give
Strengths and weaknesses are then balanced
I give to you what you do not have
You give to me what I do not have
And therein is the balance
The question answers itself.

Is she from Kenya, or India? Is the Big Elephant a feminist, a poet, an artist, a politician, a mom, a grandmother/crone, and where does she spend her holidays...with her kids or munching and bathing in the mud?

Our big Elephant is one of a Sisterhood.

The Big Elephant listens to all the controversy around her
And she just shakes her head and continues to forage
"What does that have to do with anything?" she thinks.

My home is stable, my home is secure.
And then she questions herself,
Why do I continue to bring discord into my own home?

And then it was that she came to the discernment
I don't have to. Everyone must find their own accord.
And then it was that she just sauntered on down the lane.

You can see the presence of her distancing herself
Just a minute speck in the distance now
Her billowing presence leaving the pesent

...As she walked nonchalantly into the horizon.

Michael's Elephant....

came to him quite distraught!

"What Gives!" he questioned me, the snout of his trunk just inches away above my forehead.

I looked him square in the eye and said...

"It can not matter to you, as you are just an adolescent bull the women have shushed off so they can take care of more important matters."

"Humph", was his reaction as he turned and stormed off.

That's what he gets for confusing allegory with metaphor.

Oh well, "Parts is parts," as they say."

and suddenly, moonbits, the massive

for a brief moment
understood everything
Thank heavens she thought.
"I was afraid I was crazy
but I just remembered

and suddenly moonbits was no longer afraid
because she couldn't remember how

"Isn't that funny, in an odd sort of way?" she once thought.

The Elephant is part of us.

debabbott 05-26-2007 09:07 PM

She heard it then
The groan of the young bull
In the darkness of the night
She hurried then

"Oh what could be wrong?" she thought
Why is he groaning as if he could be injured
Rushing forward she found him waiting there
Sadly lamenting into the night

She then nestled up to him
Rubbing him with her trunk
Telling him it will be all right
Then she held him like a mother.

His cries were great then
Letting out all that he had felt thus far
She just held him then
Knowing his need as her own.

And the Big Elephant sighs
And bows her head in repose
And then she raises her head
And signifies
"There is enough love to go around for all."
All you have to do is accept it.

And then the Big Elephant
Sweeps her heavy trunk upon them all
Touching them all in some significant way
And then she marches off once again
Leaving her trail
Free.

The Big elephant

The Big Elephant then
Walks closely to her constiuents
Keeping an eye out for them all
As she walks in union with them.

She knows in her heart
That she walks within her own strength
And that no other can compromise that
And so she walks sternly assured.

But as well, she knows that those who
Walk beside her are just as assured of
Their own path and knowing
And so she feels a calmness in her soul.

Tomorrow is another day, she thinks
Tomorrow with its own challenges and blessings
And so on this night as the moon leads her way
She feels assured that she will again, find the way.

She trumpets then, just because she can
And then she hears echos from the others in accord
Each acknowledging that we are not alone
We are never alone.

she smiles again.....

One may see humanity in an Elephant.

debabbott 06-02-2007 12:02 PM

Deb's Perception of the Big Elephant

There is truth in everything.
But the whole truth does not reside in any one thing.
It is all combined that provides the whole of truth.

When we stop presenting one truth "against" another
Then we will find all have truth
And combined they provide
The whole of truth.

This is honoring and respecting all perceptions and opinions
And not wanting just to hold to our own
It is the joining of all that will give us the whole picture
Of all that is occuring.

This to me is what the Big Elephant is attempting to present
All of our perceptions make up the whole
None is wrong, we are all right
So...

Until we can join our perceptions
We will not be able to see the whole of the picture
We each see from different angles
All angles represent a part of the truth

But the whole of the truth is represented
By the combination of all perceptions
There is no one right and no one wrong
We are all right.

Why can't we see that????
Why can't we see the whole picture????
Why does somebody have to be right????
Why does somebody have to be wrong???

When we are ALL right!!!!

Where does the Big Elephant stand on principles, ethics? Or honor and integrity---thievery, plagerism, manners, etiquette? We know what she honors and believes in.

The Big Elephant must have feelings. What feelings come up when the Big Elephant walks by a group of her peers talking about her and spreading unfair and unjust gossip? Elephants can be very gossipy you know. ;)

debabbott 06-02-2007 12:45 PM

The Big Elephant

The Big Elephant is not affected
By compliments and flattery or
Criticism and blame
For she walks in her own truth
And she knows she is not responsible to or for
Another's opinions, thoughts or feelings.
So she is free just to be who she is for her ownself.
She is not in bondage to any other.
Nor does she feel any need to defend her truth
Because she knows her truth
...is its own defense.

Yes, I would think that would be how she would handle it all. And yet, is there a point where she gets pushed to the point where she must prove all that she is and what would that be? She is part of a tribe and if that tribe works against her because of their lack of understanding and feel threatened by her, does she just continue munching for days, for weeks, for years? When does their negative behavior against her become abusive to her? or is she blind, numb and dumb about it.....gee wouldn't that be a wonderful place to be! HA.

debabbott 06-02-2007 01:48 PM

The Big Elephant

The Big Elephant understands
The Silent Language of her heart
Its energies emminating through vibrations
Unseen, unheard but felt somehwere
Deep in the soul by her as well as others.

She knows that the intent of her heart
Is projected through these vibrations
As she too, can feel the vibrations of others
Coming back to her.

So, if there is no resistance within her
She knows that there will be no resistance
Coming back at her, and so
She walks with a peaceful heart.

She understand that what she resists
She becomes and she has learned
That is not to her advantage
So she has freed herself from resistance.

She sees all things, feels all things
But she discerns that which she chooses
To hold sacred to her
Finding peace in every circumstance.

So she chooses to project from her heart
That which she wants to receive
And in that she has found
She always receives that which she chooses.

She understands that she is the originator
Of her experience by the choices
That she makes
Therefore, she chooses to

The Big Elephant hears a tender heart
She looks around to see but no one is there
And then she realizes that it is her own heart
That speaks.

So she bows her head and gives credence
For her own sense of repose this eve
What was it she wanted to hear
What was it that she sought?

So many questions and so very few answers
Give me something to hold on to, she asks
And yet all she could hear
Was the cooing of the Dove.

Someone once told her that the cooing of the Dove
Meant comfort - And so she brought forth
The name of the Dove
And it was Comfort.
