OK, I get it.
The lone wolf stood upon the precipice which looked over the magnificent valley below. It was dusk, as the last illumination of the sun receded below the western horizon.
This was his domain, and he was the alpha male of his pack, yet had turned his back upon them to make his way through the wilderness alone. Still, he was lonely, and longed for a mate. Upon the horizon the moon began to rise. From a distance the wolf could be viewed sillouetted upon her full face. The wolf was compelled to throw his voice across the valley, and sanctify his place among all the rocks, trees, and animals, and especially his brothers and sisters who he missed. Maybe they would hear his voice and come to him. Illuminated in lunar glory the lone wolf began to trumpet. He trumpeted and trumpeted continuously. It was not long before the trumpeting of wolves could be heard across the entire valley, as all his brothers and sisters were trumpeting in his honor, and trumpeting for each other, and just trumpeting in the joy of being alive. |
elephants howl and wolves can trumpet
osiris..as i read i was feeling the beauty of your story and then when you got to the trumpeting i laughed out loud. loved it. it's poetic Bell |
The Big Elephant
The Big Elephant is much wiser than I
I don't know how she does it, how she knows But she does and I have come to trust her words Not really words, but thoughts transmitted to me Or more so feelings and so I feel her intent. And so, as she is the big protective beast She leads her loves to safety and holds them there And when the danger has passed, she looks around And smiles and then walks forward, plodding along Leading all to her succulent grounds. She has an inert wisdom of where she needs to be At any given time and at this time she goes to the river She sinks into the waters and then quite playfully Sprays all those around her, laughing in her delight She holds all close to her in her might. It is a cleansing time for all who have come A playful time of tenderness and care A rejuvenating, a release of all that is past A time of reveling and just to enjoy She then goes to feed upon the eager trees. She never looks back, only ahead... Love, Deb |

The Big Elephant
The Big elephant never tarries for too long
She engulfs herself on what is available at the time And then she moves on Lingering beyond is not in her sense of being And so she moves, she moves, she walks on. And yet she senses those who wish to linger and ponder She allows them to do so for a time, Understanding their hold on what is or was But as she moves slowly from her presence, she gives notice And makes her awareness known to the others, subtley. Moving slowly then, she brings attention to her movements Not by force but by presence No sense in holding on to what is past, she thinks. For this will not be here tomorrow We have to find a new day, a new holding for the new day. And so she walks, slowly she walks, planting her feet into the new ground Ambling forward always, never looking back And then she feels her charges following, ever so gently It does not matter to her for she will be moving forward anyway But it is nice to know that the others feel it so as well. Nice to know, for the moment, that she will not be alone.... Love, Deb |
The Elephant meet the Wolf near the spring by the granite pinnacles that spired above them into a cloudless blue sky.
"Ya' know we have a bit of a conundrum here." said the Elephant to the Wolf. "Yes I am aware of this answered the Wolf." The Elephant continued, "Those people posting on The Encounter Board at Shirley MacLaine's have got us all screwed up! "Tell me about it!" said the Wolf. "My pack and I have been trumpeting all across the land. It is down right embarrassing! Nothing like this has ever happened before!" The Elephant agreed, "My people are on the verge of tears continuously. We won't talk to each other anymore, and we wont announce our presence at the water hole, and we can't call after our children because they think it's you coming after them! My goodness! Who on Earth could have conceived of Elephants that Howl?!?!" "....and trumpeting Wolves! How absurd!" Added the wolf. The Elephant sighed, "I know this is all just one big misunderstanding.", and the Wolf agreed, "Yes, that is all this is. How bout' we just swap our howling and trumpeting back again without telling anyone, and just continue on as if nothing ever happened. No one will have their feelings hurt, and we can be one big happy family again." So The Elephant and The Wolf swapped their voices back to the way it is supposed to be. The Elephants all across the world now trumpeted with joy for having their trumpeters returned to them, and The Wolves now bey and howl at the moon and for each other with the joy of having a unique misunderstanding resolved. |
Ahhhh
Is this not beautiful??? Cooperation at its best. Finding a way to make everybody feel comfortable again.
And the Big Elephant sighs and questions, "What have we learned here?" And as she lingers, her thoughts conclude, "Compromise. Seeing, hearing all. Incorporating all perceptions into one big view. Though we may not always understand another's views, still we must embrace them, acknowledge them, respect them. And in doing so, we find ultimately a commoness, a unity. And in that unity, we find a place where we can all exist together in peace. And just what is peace, she thinks? Peace is the ultimate union of all, incorporating all views of the Big Elephant. Recognizing, understanding, accepting that there are many views of the Big Elephant and that no one is wrong but all are right in the big picture." She then signs again and smiles, thinking then, "It is good." Love, Deb |
Just for Fun
A farce written by Mark Twain: The Stolen White Elephant - a really funny story about a white elephant that is kidnapped, and the buffoon of a detective who finds 'the stolen property' too elusive to find.

The Big Elephant
The Big Elephant, looks at all angles
So as better to identify with what she Is seemingly approaching. She does not acquiese, simply because Someone else says this is the way it is. She defines for herself what is and then Makes her own judgements from there. She does not take another's word for anything Until she has defined for her ownself What is actually happening. And when she has adequately done so Then and only then does she move in that essence. And that is the Spirit of the Big Elephant And her wisdom. Love, Deb |

...is the matriarch of the World.
Her people borrow open Earth for all when there is no rain... which brings Earth Mothers water to the surface for all the animal families. Creating the water hole of life from the desert of Death. The mighty Lions attack not the Elephant, not for fear of size, but out of respect! |
Does the Big Elephant ever sleep? Or is she an insomniac like me? HA!

The Big Elephant
The Big Elephant stands
And in her standing she peers around her Slowly taking in all that surrounds her Scoping, she does, visualizing all that is in Her presence.... As she munches on the leaves of the trees Feeling the succulence inbibe her She continues to peer around And finds those peering at her And she wonders.... What is it that they see that so enthralls them Why would they look at me eating upon this tree While they seem to be so beleaguered In there own lack of sustenance And still she wonders.... Then she feels darts coming at her As if they could penetrate her tough hide She then smiles at the futility of it all And continues to eat But still she wonders.... Why would anyone want to harm her For just being who she is What threat has she ever posed on another Her ivory tusks braze the branches On the tree in which she feeds.... Ah, she thinks, could this be it Could it be that I hold the sanctuary of myself In these ivory tusks that I present The essence of strength to shake the branches Again she nibbles on the leaves.... She smiles then, not feeling it necessary to proceed With any further thoughts on another's perceptions But just relishing in her own and feeling sanctified In her own presence Flapping her big ears, hearing.... And as she does so, she finds that she Easily frees herself of the darts That were thrown at her Her long trunk swifts them easily away And she continues to forage.... The Big Elephant smiles. The Big Elephant
The Big Elephant
Is moving now Though she walks slowly Her steps are planted Steadfastly upon The Mother Earth.... She is leaving behind All that from which she came And going forward To all that which she perceives To be in await And she shivers in the wonder.... Slowly she walks Remembering always Every little thought that she has had Putting it all together it seems To make some sort of sense In this moment now.... As the sun crests itself Above the butte before her The rays extend themselves Enveloping her, caressing her She feels comforted then In her walk beyond.... Yes, it is a walk beyond she thinks For hasn't she gone far beyond And back again and again and again Only to capture What she missed the other times And the lesson still remains.... Tired but rejuvenated she thinks What more could be to her blessing In that she find exactly What she has sought In her coming to herself Once again.... And so she stands once again Stoic in her presence And remembers from long ago I am that I am who walks this earth Just because I am Then there she sees the rising sun... Love, Deb |
And
And the Sun speaks
I see you dear one Who has come I will honor your presence As you honor my own. You have not gone amiss You are not sifted from me I will be there for you As you are here for me. Let us discover the possibilities Together. The Big Elephant smiles then and awaits. Love, Deb |

Nice Deb, very nice.
The elephant has grown a lot since last I read this piece
Grown in wisdom, size and love and maturity I hear the voice in soft spoke words within it’s only heart And feel the wisdom it’s comes to know from the very start. |

The Big Elephant
The Big Elephant looks around her
She sees all that she has done All that she has presented And she feels herself wanting. She understands that She did the best she could do at the time But still she sees that she could have done more And it is there where she now resides. And so it is that this is where she now resides Wondering.... Love, Deb |
Sounds like the Big Elephant needs a day at the spa!
|
And as
As the Big Elephant waits
So does the rain come A slow, drizzling rain Draping her with its moisture. And in the essence She lifts her head high To feel the pure cleansing of such Basking in the moment. There seems to be no other words That would make it anymore Than what it is And so she holds the cleansing of such. She simply receives the cleansing As the raindrops drape upon her back She delights in the moment And turns herself to be more in direct ...of its renderings. Love, Deb |

It's only a second
Elephants have a great memory or so it is I’m told
It’s good that they remember as their growing old. But in a way it’s not so great, they see all the possibilities Of paths they took or could have taken throughout eternity. Each of us like the Elephant only have so much time to live And in that time all we can do is decide how much to give And once we’re done, we should not grieve over the possibilities For in the end, this is just a second in all of eternity. |
Dearest Edward
"This is just a second of all eternity" ...
